Adding File and Path Information to the Footer PDF Print E-mail
Written by Arlene Watkins

ImageLast week, I was in a meeting where a person distributing a document had listed the path and document name in the footer.  Some others in the meeting were not aware of this Word feature so I thought this would be a good time to remind everyone how to insert this into your documents.

Using Word 2003:

1.  Go to File | View, select Header and Footer which displays the Header and Footer floating toolbar.

2.  Click the Switch Between Header and Footer  button.

3.  Select Insert AutoText on the Header and Footer toolbar and choose Filename and path.

4.  The path and file name appears in the footer.

Note:  To change the format or center the text in the footer, use the buttons on the Formatting toolbar

5.  To update the path and file name, position the cursor in the path and right-click.  Select  from the shortcut menu.

Using Word 2007:

1.  Go to the Insert tab.  Select Quick Parts in the Text group.

2.  On the Quick Parts menu, select Field….

3.  On the Field dialog box, select FieldName, Lowercase and check Add path to filename under the Field options.

4.  Click OK.
