It seems everyone on the web is searching for new and creative ways to generate traffic to their site. But have you ever considered rewarding your current flow of loyal visitors with something special, just for them?
Consider it the Internet version of ‘Customer Appreciation Day’. And since this month is traditionally associated with giving thanks, here are a few suggestions for showing those who already frequent your website that you really appreciate them.
Ship It Free! When shoppers hear ‘free shipping’ they are actually hearing ‘more money to spend on stuff you want!’
Up With Percents! 10%, 15%, 20% ---- Make it creative…maybe the number of years you’ve been open, or the number of in-laws you’ll be entertaining for the holiday. I got an offer the other day for 27% off. I still don’t know the significance of 27%, but hey it was OFF!
Get Off The Phone! Inundated with calls to fill the holiday orders? Change your outgoing message to say, “Check out our website for exclusive online discounts and savings!”
Gift With Purchase! Cosmetic and perfume companies have done it for years. People love free stuff. Make it useful and inexpensive…like a coffee mug or a mouse pad. And for heaven’s sake make sure your company name appears SOMEWHERE on it. As a computer guy I do not recommend magnets --- they are bad for computers, and unless you’re Betty Crocker, you probably want people to think of you while they’re at their desk, not while they’re raiding the fridge.
Finally, don’t spend too much time on these surprises. Make it fun, simple and spontaneous. By definition a surprise is something the visitor discovers unexpectedly. Don’t stress yourself by trying to launch an email, postcard or phone campaign. Decide with your Web Person when you want the surprise to launch and when you want it to end. And let that be that! Believe me when I say, “The easier, the better”. You’ll thank yourself for that. |
