ImageI was coaching a General Manager on a technique to manage Sales Accountability for his sales team, and he was resisting everything I was trying to suggest (basic stuff - Itineraries, Cold Calling, etc.). One of his prime push-backs was, "Our company is different from yours - we sell to a different clientele, and have different ways of approaching people." I would buy into that resistance except that we have reinforced these classic sales techniques to all types of businesses across the country and frankly - sales is sales. And sales accountability is key.
